Thursday November 20 is the Third Thursday, and Portsmouth’s West End studios are having open house. I’m working on a plant stand that is more sculpture than furniture. It uses a stone that I’ve been saving for a while. First I made a scale model of how to construct a base to mount it, thought I would carve it into a gardener, but it seemed rather to suggest a guitar player as I began working. Here are some photos along with a photo of an earlier work of the style I’m aiming for
My collaboration screen “Three Quotes from Ovid” won the Edith Grodin Award for best collaboration at the Living with Craft Exhibit at the League of NH Craftsmen’s Fair. The illustrations are screen prints done by Catherine Green, and we were very attentive to coordinate the carvings on the columns with the prints. I’ve done several similar screens over the years, and this one’s been very well received. It is the piece I am showing in this years NH Furniture Masters exhibitions.
